In a small and ordinary village of Alentejo, at a typical “monte” in an advanced degradation state, with an abandoned manor-house and a collapsed water-mill, located in a forest area which is part of the Natura 2000 network (Sítio de Monfurado, habitat of protected species), we found our Quinta da Nossa Senhora do Rosário, Aldeia da Biscaia, Santiago do Escoural, at Montemor-o-Novo municipality.
For Quizcamp, this situation was to be seen as another business opportunity. To this, we can add a list of touristic resources available in the region, as, for instance: The beauty of the Mediterranean landscape, the bird fauna and the local habitats at Sítio de Monfurado, but also the vast built and monumental heritage, which includes the Escoural cave, megalithic monuments, the Montemor-o-Novo castle, the “montes” and villages, the mills at Almansor river, the oil-presses, the gastronomy and the wines. |
